Lao PDR to decrease its power import to less than 1 per cent by 2015

Lao PDR is planning to decrease the import of electricity for domestic consumption from the current level of 10 per cent to less than 1 per cent in 2015 by commissioning several hydropower projects. In recent years, the Lao government has approved the development of six hydropower projects with a combined generation capacity of 858 MW, which are expected to be commissioned by 2015.
