The Lao government has reported that 50 per cent and 10 per cent of the construction work has been completed at the Attapeu International Airport and the new airport in Huaphan province, respectively. The first airport project involves the construction of a 2,850 metre runway at a total cost of $36 million. It is located in Attapeu province, about 600 km southeast of Vientiane. The second airport, known as Nongkhang airport, is located 31 km from the provincial capital of Xamneua. The project is estimated to cost 569 billion kip (about $74 million). It entails the construction of a 2,488 metre x 30 metre taxiway; a base; a two-storey terminal building; communication stations; and other facilities. Both these projects are expected to be completed by mid-2015.
