The Government of Vietnam has accelerated the approval process for the Lao Cai–Hanoi–Hai Phong railway project in Vietnam, aiming to begin construction by the end of 2025. The proposal will soon be submitted for approval, with funding sourced from a concessional loan from China-based Eximbank.
The 388.35 km railway will connect Lao Cai, Hanoi, and Hai Phong, running through nine provinces and cities. It will feature a 160 km/h main section and 30 stations, with construction planned in two phases: the first phase will complete the single-track system by 2030, while the second phase will introduce a double-track system after 2050. The total investment for the project is estimated at VND211 trillion, with the Government of Vietnam contributing VND75 trillion.
