The Jakarta Provincial Government has proposed the revitalisation of the Kota Tua heritage district as a National Strategic Project (PSN). Governor Pramono Anung submitted the proposal during a meeting with Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto, alongside a request to designate a planned international-standard hospital on Sumber Waras land as a PSN to streamline approvals and development.
Under the proposal, the city government will begin core infrastructure works in 2026, including road repairs, pedestrian improvements and river normalisation, while assets managed by sovereign wealth fund Danantara would be restored by the central government. Parallel to this, PT MRT Jakarta is advancing the MRT Phase 2 extension from Bundaran HI to Kota Tua, scheduled for completion in 2029, with underground construction planned from 2027 to support the redevelopment and enable future transit-oriented development around Kota Tua.
If granted PSN status, the Kota Tua revitalisation would receive priority facilitation at the national level. The provincial government emphasised the need for coordination among Danantara, relevant ministries and PT MRT Jakarta to ensure integrated planning and delivery of revitalisation and transport works.
