Kuala Lumpur’s new low-cost airport, the Kuala Lumpur International Airport 2 (KLIA2) will be ready by May 1, 2013, and operations are likely to commence from June 28, 2013. Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad, the airport’s operator, has stated that the time period between setting up and commissioning would be utilised to perform testing, mock operation drills, and certain commissioning activities. KLIA2, being built at a development cost of about RM 4 billion, will cater to both local and international low-cost and full-service carriers. It is designed to handle 45 million passengers per annum.
