The Ministry of Works (KKR) is seeking a budget allocation of RM3.4 billion from the Ministry of Finance (MOF) to repair old and damaged federal roads across Malaysia. Works will include resurfacing, layering as well as building new roads, with the repairs expected to be completed by 2023.

Out of the total amount requested, about RM68 million is required to repair the East-West Highway linking Perak to Kelantan. For most of the old roads, as traffic volumes have increased over the last five years, the upper layer has been damaged.

Additionally, damaged streetlights and drains also need to be upgraded.
