Keppel Infrastructure Trust (KIT) has acquired a 50 per cent stake in Marina East Water (MEW) in a move valued at USD355 million. This move will also transfer ownership of the Keppel Marina East Desalination Plant (KMEDP) in Singapore.  The remaining 50 per cent of the stake in MEW will be held by Keppel Infrastructure Holdings Private Limited.

KMEDP is the only large-scale and dual-mode desalination plant in Singapore that can treat seawater or rainwater sourced from the Marina Reservoir. The country’s fourth desalination plant has the capacity to produce 137,000 cubic meter of fresh drinking water daily.

Commercial operation of the plant commenced in June 2020 and will supply fresh drinking water to state-owned Public Utilities Board (PUB) till 2045 under a 25-year design, build, own and operate contract.
