The Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources (KeTSA) has announced that it will open applications for feed-in tariff (FiT) quotas for non-solar energy totalling 187 MW in Malaysia. The quota will include 30 MW of biogas, 30 MW of biomass and 127 MW of mini hydropower.
The agency will start accepting applications from August 2022. Upon approval, the new quota is expected to generate investments of RM1.8 billion and supply electricity to the grid between 2025 to 2027.
This move is in line with government effort to increase Malaysia’s renewable energy (RE) capacity and ensure the country supplies 31 per cent capacity usage in RE by 2025 and 40 per cent by 2035.
