The Energy Market Authority (EMA) has conditionally approved Keppel Energy’s project to import 1 GW of electricity from Cambodia to Singapore. The project is a part of Singapore’s plan to import up to 4 GW of low-carbon electricity by 2035 which aims to develop solar, wind, and hydropower energy, supported by energy storage systems.

The approval includes further studies and regulatory approvals for the project. In July 2022, EMA issued a Request for Proposal (RFP) to enable electricity imports and plans to grant more conditional approvals before the RFP closes in December 2024.

This project, along with a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed with the government of Indonesia on renewable energy cooperation, advances regional collaboration to enhance energy security and economic growth. These efforts align with the ASEAN Power Grid, following the successful implementation of the Lao PDR-Thailand-Malaysia-Singapore Power Integration Project (LTMS-PIP).
