China-based JinkoSolar Holding Company Limited (JinkoSolar) has announced that its 7 GW solar cell and panel factory in Malaysia has transitioned operations to a 100 per cent renewable energy (RE). This is its first overseas fully powered by renewables, also termed as a RE100 factory. At full production capacity, its annual power consumption is calculated at about 335 million kWh.
JinkoSolar is procuring hydro and solar power externally through utility-scale power purchase agreements (PPAs) to deliver around 0.44 billion kWh of electricity. A rooftop PV array is also expected to be installed on top of the facility by the end of 2022.
