The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has released its new official development assistance (ODA) map under which the agency has announced plans to implement about 80 cooperation projects along with various government agencies and local government units (LGUs) in the Philippines. The ODA projects will be in the areas of economic infrastructure, economic development and governance, environment and energy, disaster management, agriculture, health and social development as well as development projects in Mindanao

Key projects that will be financed by JICA under the new ODA map includes the North-South Commuter Railway project, the Metro Rail Transit Line 3 Rehabilitation project, Metro Manila Subway project Phase 1, Capacity Enhancement for Mass Transit Systems in Metro Manila.

During 2020, the Government of Japan’s ODA accounted for about 36 per cent or USD11 billion of the Philippines’ total ODA.  The new ODA roadmap also aligns with the Government of Philippines’ socio economic priorities as outlined in the Philippine Development Plan 2017-2022 and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
