According to reports, the Jatibarang dam that is spread across an area of 266 hectares in Semarang, Central Java, will be operational by December 2013. The project involves an investment of nearly Rp 600 billion. Currently, over 70 per cent of the works of the JICA-funded project stand complete. The new facility will have a total capacity of 20.4 million cubic metres of water. The project includes the main dam, a spillway, and a bridge that connects the dam to the Kreo Cave tourist site, as well as a micro-hydro power plant with a generation capacity of 1.5 MW. The dam will also check the recurrent flooding in the region.
