Tokyo-based power company Looop has announced plans to build a solar power plant in the Philippines with a total investment of USD20 million. The facility will include a dedicated battery storage system, making it the first of its kind developed by the company in the country.

The project reflects Looop’s strategy to expand overseas amid challenges in Japan’s domestic energy market. The company aims to support the Philippines’ renewable energy transition by combining solar generation with storage to improve grid stability and reliability.

Looop, which has been active in renewable energy development since its establishment in 2011, is part of a growing wave of Japanese and international small-to-mid-sized energy firms seeking opportunities in emerging markets across Southeast Asia.
