Phase I of Jakarta’s mass rapid transit (MRT) system extending from Lebak Bulus, South Jakarta, to the Hotel Indonesia traffic circle in Central Jakarta is likely to be completed by 2019. At present, the project has achieved physical progress of 91.86 per cent. The elevated section of the MRT is 87.99 per cent complete while the underground section is 95.67 per cent complete.

The rolling stock for the Jakarta MRT comprises a total of 16 trains, with six cars each. Two of these trains are expected to arrive from Japan by the end of March 2018. Further, the construction of Phase II of the system connecting the Hotel Indonesia traffic circle and Kampung Bandan in North Jakarta is expected to begin by the end of 2018. At present, the land acquisition for the project is in progress. The 7.8 km Phase II route will have eight stations. One station will be an at-grade platform in Kampung Bandan, North Jakarta, and seven other stations will be built underground. The stations will be located in Sarinah, Monas, Harmoni, Sawah Besar, Mangga Besar, Glodok, Kota, and Kampung Bandan (which will also act as a depot).
