The Governments of Thailand and Italy are exploring expanded cooperation in transport infrastructure following discussions between the ministries. The talks focused on opportunities for collaboration in rail systems, port development and logistics infrastructure as Thailand advances major transport expansion projects.
Italy expressed its readiness to share expertise in railway and port development, including potential participation in southern port projects and Thailand’s proposed Land Bridge initiative, which aims to strengthen regional logistics connectivity. Discussions also highlighted interest from Italian private-sector companies in partnering with Thai firms to develop and operate a luxury tourist train service designed to promote high-end rail tourism in the country.
The discussions form part of broader efforts to deepen economic and infrastructure cooperation between Thailand and Italy, which are marking 158 years of diplomatic relations. The potential collaboration aligns with Thailand’s objectives to expand transport infrastructure, enhance logistics competitiveness and strengthen tourism-related rail services while attracting international expertise and investment.
