The Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources (KeTSA), the Energy Commission (EC) and the Sustainable Energy Development Authority (Seda) have announced their partnership with the Government of United States to aid and accelerate Malaysia’s transition to green and sustainable energy.
The main focus area of the partnership includes the drafting of a roadmap for enhancing solar integration in the country. The agencies will also co-develop a feasible strategy for improved grid capacity in Malaysia to optimise decentralised energy resources. The partnership will also conduct a study along Sabah’s east coast to investigate the technical and financial potential of hybrid battery energy storage systems (ESS) and large-scale solar as a replacement for ageing diesel power plants.
In addition, the National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners will provide capacity building in certain areas, including the prospect of assigning EC and Seda officers to relevant institutions in the United States. The agencies will then be required to submit plans for the National Energy Efficiency Action Plan of Malaysia beyond 2025.
