The Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (MoECRT) has partnered with PT Industri Kereta Api Indonesia (INKA), a train manufacturer, to deploy nine Red and White electric buses (BLMP) in Indonesia for the 2022 G20 Summit. The project is expected to cost approximately IDR45 billion which will be borne by both the agencies.
Multiple state universities will also participate in the electric vehicle (EV) project including Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology (ITS), Denpasar Institute of Art, Airlangga University and Gadjah Mada University.
The universities will produce parts of the buses, including the smart main indicator display, body, batteries, electric powertrain, monocoque chassis as well as build the necessary battery charging infrastructure.
INKA will pay for electric bus platforms, engineers, and technicians, as well as human resource training. The business will also be in charge of the EV certification.
Meanwhile, the ministry will create, produce, or purchase critical components for the vehicles and organise them, as well as integrate all important components into the bus platforms.
