The Government of Vietnam has plans for around 16 infrastructure projects, with a combined value of VND94.3 trillion, to improve traffic and prevent drought in the Mekong Delta. The proposals have been submitted by the Ministry of Transport, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development as well as the local authorities of the 13 cities and provinces in the area.

Some of the key projects in the pipeline include a 415-km-long coastal road, valued at VND43 trillion, and the second phase of an embankment project in Vinh Long, worth VND4.150 trillion. Other projects also include upgrades to existing roads and canals in the delta.

The projects will be funded through VND66 trillion in foreign loans as well as VND28 trillion from the Government of Vietnam.
