Construction works on the $1.6 billion geothermal power plant in Sarulla, North Sumatra province, are expected to commence by early 2015. The facility, considered to be the largest in the world, will have a generation capacity of 330 MW. Apart from Medco, some foreign partners will be involved in the implementation of the project, including Japan-based Itochu Corporation and Kyushu Electric Power Company and US-based Ormat International, Inc. A consortium of financial institutions, including Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC), the Asian Development Bank, the Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi UFJ Limited, ING Bank NV, Mizuho Bank Limited, the National Australia Bank, Societe Generale SA, and the Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation, have extended financial support of up to $1.17 billion for the project.
