The Government of Indonesia and the Ministry of Communication and Information (MCI) have reopened the 2.3 GHz spectrum auction for 4G services in the 2.360-2.390 MHz range after auction was cancelled last year. This time, all operators have the option of receiving a 1x10MHz, 2x10MHz, or 3x10MHz block.

The process was reopened for three reasons: to give operators more frequencies and expand mobile network potential, to accelerate the roll-out of LTE infrastructure and to boost quality of service. There’s also a potential for the government to optimise the Non-Tax State Revenue, especially from the radio frequency spectrum Right to Use Fee.

Despite MCI’s previous cancellation for precautionary reasons, numerous operators are likely to participate again although no date has yet been declared for the latest action.
