Indonesian state-owned port operator PT Pelindo II has announced that the construction of the Rp 1 trillion Sorong port project in West Papua province would be delayed until 2013 due to land acquisition problems. The project was supposed to have started by the fourth quarter of 2012. Pelindo II, another state-owned port operator, PT Pelindo IV, and five shipping companies – PT Meratus Line, PT Salam Pacific Indonesia Line, PT Samudera Indonesia, PT Tanto Intim Line and PT Tempuran Mas – are implementing the project. Once operational, the project is expected to reduce logistics costs in the region by 50 per cent.
