Indonesia’s Ministry of Transportation, in partnership with the Institute for Transportation and Development Policy (ITDP) Indonesia, has released a comprehensive roadmap to electrify public transport in Pekanbaru, Surabaya, and Surakarta. The initiative, supported by ViriyaENB, aligns with the national goal of achieving 100 per cent electrification by 2040.
The roadmap emphasises that electrification must be accompanied by service reform. It outlines four strategic areas: improving public transport connectivity, reforming operational contracts to reduce costs, planning phased deployment of electric buses with suitable charging infrastructure, and ensuring regulatory and fiscal support from national and local authorities. The roadmap was officially handed over during a ceremony in Pekanbaru on June 19, 2025.
