The Indonesia Investment Authority (INA), a sovereign wealth fund, has signed two agreements with Angkasa Pura II (AP II), an airport operator, to form a joint venture (JV) to oversee and operate the Soekarno-Hatta airport and oversee the construction of a new cargo village. The new cargo village will cover 90 hectares, which is three times the size of the current cargo terminal. AP II will continue to own the Soekarno-Hatta airport and the new facility.

Before the pandemic-induced travel restrictions, Soekarno-Hatta was Indonesia’s largest and busiest airport, with over 850,000 aircraft movements reported. Due to COVID-19 related mobility constraints, the airport only reported half that number in 2020. The new cargo village at Soekarno-Hatta airport will be able to handle 1.5 million to 2.2 million tonnes of goods per year, up from the present 700,000 tonnes.
