The Government of Indonesia has launched the Indonesia Open Network (ION) in partnership with India, aiming to expand digital market access for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and reduce reliance on closed digital platforms. The initiative was unveiled at the Indonesia Economic Forum (IEF) 2026 in Jakarta.

ION is designed as an open, interoperable digital infrastructure that allows buyer applications, seller platforms, payment systems, and logistics providers to connect through common standards. The network seeks to lower transaction costs, improve interoperability, and enable MSMEs across Indonesia’s archipelago to participate more effectively in digital commerce, drawing lessons from India’s Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC).

Indonesian officials described ION as a national digital strategy rather than a standalone technology product, aligning with broader bilateral cooperation on digital public infrastructure agreed during President Prabowo Subianto’s state visit to India in January 2025. The initiative reflects growing strategic alignment between Indonesia and India on inclusive digitalisation to support MSME growth and long-term economic expansion.
