The Indonesian government has assigned national oil company Pertamina to build and operate the 15 mtpa oil refinery in Bontang, in East Kalimantan, in an attempt to accelerate the development of the project. Pertamina plans to invest $9 billion in the construction of the facility, which will produce high-grade oil products, including RON-92 gasoline and Euro IV-V type diesel. The government has already prepared land for the project, to be built under a public-private partnership (PPP) scheme, and plans to offer financial incentives such as tax exemptions. Pertamina plans to select a partner for the project by the end of 2017 so as to start construction in late 2019.
