The International Finance Corporation (IFC) will provide funding of around USD30 million for the development of a waste-to-energy plant in Bac Ninh, Vietnam. This project is expected to aid the Government of Vietnam reach its goal of net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.

The waste-to-energy facility is scheduled to commence commercial operations in 2024 and will be able to incinerate 500 tonnes of residential and industrial solid waste. The plant’s waste incineration is planned to generate around 91,872 MWh of renewable energy (RE) annual, offsetting around 600,000 tonnes of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions over the next 15 years. Under a 20-year feed-in-tariff power purchase arrangement (PPA), the generated electricity will be sold to Vietnam Electricity Corporation (EVN).
