The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has begun an 11-day Integrated Nuclear Infrastructure Review mission in Vietnam to assess readiness for a nuclear power programme. The mission is organised by the Ministry of Science and Technology, the review runs from December 1-11, 2025, and supports the revival of the Ninh Thuan nuclear power project following its 2016 suspension. It evaluates 19 infrastructure areas, including legal frameworks, safety, financing, and human resources, as Vietnam advances to IAEA Milestone 2 for bidding on its first plant.
Vietnam submitted its self-assessment report in October 2025, prompting the mission’s interviews and evaluations. Deputy Minister Le Xuan Dinh highlighted nuclear energy’s role in meeting rising electricity demand, high-tech growth, and emission reductions, backed by the 2025 Atomic Energy Law.
