Hitachi ABB Power Grids (Hitachi ABB) has secured a contract to provide PowerStore, its battery energy storage system, and e-mesh, its digital controls platform, for the first virtual power plant (VPP) in Singapore. The systems will be used to balance intermittent generation with smart and dynamic loads and ensure the stability of the grid network.

The VPP project was launched in 2019 by the Energy Research Institute at Nanyang Technological University (NTU) and jointly funded by Singapore’s Energy Market Authority (EMA) and Sembcorp Industries. The virtual power plant will use energy generated from distributed energy resources, including solar and wind, integrate it into the main grid and ensure the stability of the grid.
