Hitachi ABB Power Grids (Hitachi ABB) has secured a contract from Impact Solar Limited to deploy PowerStore, its battery energy storage system (BESS), as well as e-Mesh, its digital controls platform, for Saha Industrial Park. The project will be located in Sri-Racha, along Thailand’s south-west coast. The company will integrate 214 MW of distributed energy infrastructure such as rooftop and floating solar photovoltaics (PV) panels, battery energy storage and co-generation gas turbines into a single structure, making Saha Industrial Park the country’s largest private microgrid.

The digitally enabled microgrid will link all of the distributed resources while acting like a utility-scale power grid, controlling and maximising power production throughout the industrial park in real time. The device will be able to incorporate the variable performance of the solar power plants, as well as provide power backup to a data centre at the park and ensure power system reliability for the businesses that are located there. The model integrates production from various distributed energy sources, provides flexibility for future data centre demand, and establishes the groundwork for a peer-to-peer digital energy sharing network among the industrial park’s users.
