HG Metal Manufacturing Limited (HG Metal) has signed a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with LYS Energy Group (LYS), to build and operate a rooftop solar photovoltaic (PV) system in Singapore. Construction of the PV system is scheduled to be completed by the third quarter of 2021. Once operational, the 937 kWp solar power plant, which is made up of 2,059 JA Solar Modules, is expected to produce 1,031.5 MWh annually over the next 20 years.

The solar PV system will also be registered under the Enhanced Central Intermediary Scheme (ECIS) of the Energy Market Authority (EMA) to allow for the transfer of the surplus energy produced by the PV system into the national electricity grid. Furthermore, by selling back excess solar-generated electricity, HG Metal will be able to contribute to Singapore’s energy generating mix toward cleaner energy.

The energy produced by the solar power plant is estimated to account for 60 to 70 per cent of the HG Energy’s annual energy demand, lowering the firm’s dependency on conventional sources of electricity. The transition is estimated to save up to SGD3.1 million during the project’s 20-year lifespan.
