The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) has energized the Hermosa-San Jose 500 kV transmission line, now operating at its full capacity of 8,000 MW. This transmission line is part of the larger Mariveles-Hermosa-San Jose 500 kV facility, which brings an additional 2,200 MW of power from new plants in Bataan and Zambales, thereby strengthening the Luzon grid.
Line 1 was initially energized in May 2023 with a capacity of 2,000 MW. By May 2024, the section was completed, increasing its capacity to 4,000 MW. With the recent completion of Line 2, the entire line now supports 8,000 MW.
The project, which cost PHP 20.94 billion, was submitted to the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC). The ERC approved the recovery of PHP 19 million of this cost.
