Ho Chi Minh City’s Department of Transport has launched a comprehensive suite of smart mobility tools, including an open loop e-ticketing system, the MultiPass smart card, and the MultiGO mobile app. These initiatives aim to modernise the city’s public transport and enhance commuter convenience.
The open loop system enables payments via credit and debit cards, EMV prepaid cards, e-wallets, smartphones, and wearables. Initially installed on over 500 buses, it is set to expand to 2,000 by the end of May. In parallel, the MultiPass card offers a unified payment solution for frequent users like students and office workers, and works across all buses equipped with point-of-sale devices.
Ho Chi Minh City operates 138 bus routes and over 2,200 vehicles, serving more than 350,000 passengers daily. The recently launched Metro Line No. 1 also supports the city’s growing multimodal transit system. The MultiGO app complements these efforts by offering route planning, ticket purchases, and MultiPass registration on a single digital platform.
