The People’s Committee of Ho Chi Minh City has submitted a proposal to the Prime Minister to include a new metro line connecting downtown HCMC to Can Gio District among the country’s key investment projects. The request follows the Prime Minister’s directive to speed up urban rail development and aligns with Resolution No. 188/2025/QH15, issued by the National Assembly in February.
The proposed Line No. 12 is part of HCMC’s 2021–2030 urban planning, with a long-term vision to 2050, approved under Decision No. 1711/QD-TTg in December 2024. Spanning approximately 48.7 km, the metro line would begin at the intersection of Nguyen Thi Thap and Ly Phuc Man Streets in District 7 and end near the Can Gio sea reclamation urban project in Long Hoa Commune.
HCMC authorities also called for special mechanisms and policies to fast-track investment preparation and project implementation. The metro line is expected to support Can Gio’s development as a hub for eco-tourism, urban expansion, and marine economic activity.
