The Government of Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC) has accelerated the relocation of underground infrastructure for Metro Line 2 (Ben Thanh–Tham Luong) following the completion of land clearance. As of mid-July 2025, all 585 affected households have handed over land, enabling contractors to begin 24/7 operations at key sites. About 60 per cent of utility relocation—covering electricity, water, telecoms, traffic lights, and trees—has been completed at 12 locations. The city aims to finish this work within 2025 to allow construction to begin as scheduled by year-end.
Despite discrepancies between original technical drawings and actual conditions underground, the Management Authority for Urban Railways (MAUR) remains committed to staying on track. MAUR has also ramped up coordination with contractors and traffic police to minimise disruptions during night shifts. The project, backed by National Assembly Resolution 188/2025/QH15, spans 11.042 km with 10 stations (9 underground, 1 elevated) and carries a total investment of USD 2.093 billion.
HCMC will select key consultants by Q3 2025 for the feasibility study, FEED design, and bidding work. Construction contractor selection is expected by late 2027, following approval of detailed designs in 2026–2027. The city is also working to finalise the withdrawal of ODA and foreign loans. In parallel, it is revising the broader metro network plan to 2040 with a vision to 2060, including seven additional metro lines and integrated station and TOD planning.
