The Hanoi Transport Department will develop 10 urban railway routes at an investment of USD40 billion in Vietnam aimed at alleviating traffic congestion, which currently results in an annual loss of more than USD1 billion. These 10 urban railway routes will collectively span 417.8 km, with 75.6 km of railways planned to be underground.

Currently, the 13 km 2A Cat Linh – Ha Dong route is operational, while the construction of the 12.5 km Route No. 3, linking Nhon and Hanoi Station, is ongoing.

Route No. 3, funded by official development assistance (ODA) from China, will cost USD886 million. It will feature 12 stations and deploy 13 trains, each capable of reaching speeds of 80 km/hr and accommodating up to 900 passengers with four coaches.
