The Government of Hanoi will begin construction on two new metro projects in 2025—Metro Line 2’s Xuân Đỉnh depot will break ground in October, while work on Metro Line 5 is slated to start by the end of 2025.
Metro Line 2 (Nam Thang Long – Tran Hung Dao) has resumed design work with Japanese consultants, aiming for final project approval by July. However, land clearance delays—particularly involving over 250 households—remain a key obstacle. For Metro Line 5 (Van Cao – Ngoc Khanh – Lang – Hoa Lac), ten consultancy packages are in progress, with one contract signed and others nearing approval.
Meanwhile, Metro Line 3’s elevated section has been operational since August 2024, and underground construction is nearly 49 percent complete, with tunnel completion expected by December 2025. MRB also plans to prepare investment for ten metro lines in 2025, with more to follow in 2026.
