Gulf LNG, a subsidiary of Thailand-based Gulf Energy Development has received its first liquefied natural gas (LNG) shipment in January 2025. This milestone follows an LNG purchase agreement with ADNOC Trading, allowing the Gulf to import up to 6.4 million tons of LNG annually for its power generation needs. The shipment will be regasified at the Map Ta Phut LNG terminal and injected into the PTT natural gas pipeline system, supplying Gulf Group’s power plants.
This development aligns with Thailand’s gas market deregulation policy, which aims to enhance competition, energy security, and flexibility in sourcing energy. Gulf Energy Development plans to expand its natural gas business to meet growing demand, including the development of Phase 3 of the Map Ta Phut industrial port, which will feature a new LNG terminal scheduled for completion in 2027.
