Works for the Mutiara Light Rail Transit (LRT) project have commenced with the recent groundbreaking works ceremony in George Town, Penang state. This is the first rail-based light transit project in Penang. The LRT line (formerly known as Bayan Lepas LRT Project) will span 29.5 km and cover 21 stations (fully elevated). The project will involve an investment of MYR13 billion. Mass Rapid Transit Corporation Sdn. Bhd. (MRT Corp.) will execute this project. Passenger services are expected to commence in 2031.
