GreenFire Energy Inc. has reached an agreement with the Energy Development Corporation (EDC) to renovate its Mahanagdong geothermal facility in Leyte, Philippines to restore and produce steam from the idle geothermal well. Due to the high level of non-condensable gases released by the well while it was flowing, it could previously not be used. When the heat mining system is designed and commissioned in fourth quarter of 2021, it will correct this fault and satisfy the surface system pressure requirements. The data and expertise obtained from the surface project are being used as part of a joint initiative to see whether Greenfire GreenLoop technology can be used in other EDC opportunity wells.

GreenFire GreenLoop is a licensed, closed-loop geothermal energy system that produces electricity from geothermal resources where traditional geothermal energy systems are unable to work due to porosity, water, or pressure issues. The two companies are also collaborating to analyse other unproductive geothermal wells and fields where the potential for implementing this technology would be most advantageous in terms of both technology and economics.
