Grab has unveiled a suite of new artificial intelligence-powered features, including its own mapping system and a smart assistant, as part of its latest product showcase at GrabX in Jakarta. The new in-app map system is designed to improve navigation across Southeast Asia by helping users locate nearby electric vehicle charging stations, navigate complex indoor spaces such as malls, and receive reminders based on calendar data to ensure timely arrivals.
A key highlight is the introduction of the Grab AI Assistant, which aims to simplify everyday tasks. The assistant allows users to search for restaurants based on preferences such as group size and dietary requirements, as well as automate shopping by generating cart lists from voice notes or written inputs.
The new features will be rolled out across six markets—Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam—reflecting Grab’s strategy to integrate AI into daily mobility and lifestyle services. Additional updates include enhancements to ride-sharing features, such as group ride functionality that enables cost-sharing among multiple passengers, and expanded digital payment capabilities for cross-border travel. Grab is also investing in workforce development, with plans to equip 10,000 drivers and merchants with AI-related skills to improve productivity and service quality.
