The Government of Vietnam has allocated a budget of over VND7.4 trillion to upgrade the country’s railway infrastructure in 2023. Out of the total, around VND3.1 trillion will be used to upgrade the Hanoi-Vinh, Vinh-Nha Trang, and Nha Trang-Sai Gon sections of the North-South railway. The three sections have a combined length of 1,725 km and work is expected to be completed in 2025.

Additionally, VND 476 billion of the budget will be used to repair existing rail stations in northern Vietnam. These include passenger stations in Gia Lam, Cam Giang and Hai Duong. Construction is scheduled to start between 2023 and 2025. The project to upgrade the Duong rail bridge has been allocated VND1.85 trillion. Budget for these five projects have been sourced from the State capital for the middle-term public investment plan for 2021-2025.

Finally, VND2 trillion will be used to upgrade the Khe Net Mountain pass. Funds for the project will be sourced from The Government of South Korea’s Economic Development Cooperation Fund (EDCF).
