The Thailand government has approved a national energy plan (Power Development Plan 2018-2037) that spells out the long-term energy requirements and power generation capacity needed for the country. It also forecasts an increase in Thailand’s installed power capacity by 56 GW by 2037 (excluding 20-30 GW of capacity decommissioning). Of this, generation from gas-fired power plants will comprise 53 per cent, renewable energy will account for 20 per cent and coal-fired plants 12 per cent.
