The Government of Territory has announced plans to introduce legislation providing marketplace certainty for the developers of the Australia-Asia PowerLink (AAPowerLink) subsea cable project. Sun Cable’s USD30 billion projects will export solar energy from the Northern Territory (NT) to Singapore.
In addition to the Solar Project (Australia-Asia Power Link) (Special Provisions) Bill 2022, the government has also signed a Project Development Agreement (PDA) which will allow it to finalise land tenure and commercial arrangements for the power project
Sun Cable has plans to develop a solar photovoltaic (PV) and battery complex spanning 12,000 hectares at Powell Creek in the Northern Territory. The solar complex will have a generation capacity of 20 GMW as well as storage capacity between 36- 42 GWh.
Energy exports under the project are expected to cover up to 15 per cent of Singapore’s electricity demand.
