Government of Sarawak granted full control of its gas management and distribution

The Government of Malaysia has granted the government of Sarawak complete control and management of its gas distribution, following the Special Council on Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MKMA63). The Sarawak Affairs Division (BHESS) and the National Security Council Malaysia (MKN) will be arranging for the full handover. The handover will take effect on June 1, 2021 under the Distribution of Gas Ordinance 2016.

In 2020, the government of Sarawak had announced plans to take control of its own oil and gas resources, after negotiating with Petronas and the federal government.
