The Government of Philippines’ infrastructure spending has increased by 38 per cent for the January-October 2021 period. This raised total expenditure for the ten-month period to PHP702.4 billion, up from PHP508.5 billion in the same period in 2020. This increase is mostly attributed to the projects under the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) and the Department of Transportation (DOTr).

Some of the main DPWH projects which received funding during this period includes road construction and renovation, bridge construction, flood mitigation structures and drainage systems. Investments were also boosted by direct contributions from development partners for the DPWH’s multiple foreign-assisted road network and flood control projects, as well as the DOTr’s foreign-assisted rail transport projects.

The investment trend is expected to continue for the remaining months of 2021.
