The Lao PDR government has approved the leasing of land for the 390 MW Xe-Pian Xe-Namnoy hydroelectric project. The developer will pay the Lao PDR government over 7.9 billion kip to lease 238 hectares of land in the Champassak and Attapeu provinces for 32 years. The project, expected to be commissioned by February 2019, is being implemented by a joint venture (JV) consisting of the Lao PDR government (24 per cent equity stake), SK Engineering and Construction Company (26 per cent), Korea Western Power Company (25 per cent), and Thailand-based Ratchaburi Electric Generating Holding Public Company (25 per cent). Ninety per cent of the power generated will be sold to Thailand.
