The Vietnamese government has approved the allocation of VND 2.186 trillion from the state budget to finance the cash-strapped Trung Luong-My Thuan expressway project in the southern province of Tien Giang. The central government has directed the Ministry of Planning and Investment, the Ministry of Finance and the Tien Giang government to disburse the funds soon. Apart from the supplementary capital pledged by the government, the rest of the funds for the VND 12.67 trillion project will come from investor equity and bank loans. The four-lane expressway, spanning 51.1 km with 4.5 km of access roads, is expected to start commercial operations in April 2021. Currently, the project is only 27 per cent complete.
