The Indonesian government is aiming to operationalise the Jatigede dam in Sumedang district, West Java, by April 2014. The second largest dam in Purwakarta Regency in the province, after the Jatiluhur dam, it will have a capacity of 1 billion cubic metres. This dam will be supported by a lake in the regency that covers 8,300 angular distances. The construction of the dam commenced in 2008. The dam will be used for irrigation, flood control, water supply, and hydroelectric power generation in the country.
