The Jakarta Transportation Agency will use Google data to analyse traffic movements in an attempt to ease congestion in the capital. Data will be used to optimise traffic lights during peak hours.
During the trial period, the technology will be used on five city roads including the Jalan Imam Bonjol, Jalan Diponegoro, Jalan Proklamasi, Jalan Pramuka, and Jalan Pemuda roads. If results are positive, the technology will be expanded to other areas.
The Jakarta Transportation Agency is also developing a transportation intelligence system which will sync 20 key intersections to address traffic density.
Congestion level in Jakarta has been steadily rising over the last few years, with the city recording more than 50 per cent congestion during peak hours in 2022.
