Google has committed USD160 million to develop shared water infrastructure in Negeri Sembilan, Malaysia, to support local communities and its planned data centre operations. The projects include a water treatment plant and an off-river storage reservoir, to be constructed by Gamuda Berhad in partnership with the state government and water utility Syarikat Air Negeri Sembilan (SAINS). Once operational, the treatment plant is expected to supply 65 million litres of potable water daily, serving Google’s upcoming data centre campus at Springhill Industrial Park in Port Dickson while increasing water availability for public use.

The reservoir along the Linggi River is designed to capture excess river flow and rainfall during periods of high water availability, helping mitigate flooding and maintaining reserves during periods of lower river flow. The investment follows Google’s water stewardship commitments, including a target to become water positive across its data centre operations by 2030. The company is also working with renewable energy partners to add clean power to Malaysia’s national grid and collaborating with SOLS Foundation on initiatives to develop skills for careers in the clean energy sector.
